A belting system comprises conveyor belt (16), connectors and flat cover (10). The belt has width, opposite faces and end edge(s). The connectors are disposed side-by-side and extend across the width of the belt along the end edge. Each connector includes outwardly disposed opposite shank portions with free ends, and inwardly disposed loop-shaped center portions. The free ends are inserted into the opposite faces of the belt. The inwardly disposed loop-shaped center portions are arranged to mesh with a connector on an opposite end of the belt. The flat cover has centrally disposed aperture. The center portions of the connectors are received through the aperture of the flat cover. The aperture is deformable for folding the cover over the end edge of the belt and onto the opposite faces of the belt to cover the shank portions of the connectors on both of the opposite faces of the belt. Independent claims are included for: (1) Interconnecting opposite ends of the conveyor belt comprising providing connectors, and flat deformable cover; inserting the center portions of the connectors through the aperture in the cover; inserting the end edge of the belt between the shank portions of the connector to a position when the end edge abuts an interior side of the cover; pressing the free ends of the connectors into the side faces of the conveyor belt; and folding the cover over the end edge of the belt and onto the opposite faces of the belt to cover the shank portions of the connectors on both faces of the belt; and (2) A connector comprising connectors and flat cover. |
