<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently encode and decode moving image data. <P>SOLUTION: A conversion section 101, a quantization section 102 and an encoding section 103 of an encoding apparatus 100 encode and output image data comprising a moving image. Furthermore, the image data are restored by an inverse quantization section 104 and an inverse conversion section 105, and stored in a restoration image memory 106. An image synthesizing section 109 synthesizes a plurality of images stored in the restoration image memory 106 based on representative values for pixel values of the respective images. In such a case, a synthetic image is produced to be a relevant pixel value based on a most frequent value of a pixel value of the image to be a target. An image selection section 110 selects either the synthetic image produced by the image synthesizing section 109 or a restored picture as a reference image, and inter-prediction is performed by a motion prediction section 107 and a motion compensation section 108. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
