The driver's or co-driver's airbag module has an airbag in two sections (11,12), whereby the inflated airbag on its front side facing the seat's occupant forms a gap (3) extending between the two airbag sections. A band in two sections (41,42) of variable length make it possible for the maximum spacing between the airbag sections' inner sides adjacent to the gap to depend upon the degree of filling of the airbag (1), whereby with increasing filling of the airbag the distance reduces.
