Device for cooling thin flat glass comprises a water cooler, air cooling tubes, a heating/cooling body middle zone and a heating/cooling body edge region. The water cooler is always arranged at the entrance of the device in the flow direction of the glass strip to permit rapid cooling of the glass strip. The water cooler is a horizontal hollow profile lined with a material having high heat conductivity and a high emission coefficient. An independent claim is also included for a process for cooling a thin flat glass using the above device.
