PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a figure data expansion device improved in accuracy by multi-valuing a bit expansion circuit to increase the apparent operational speed of the circuit and to reduce errors in oblique line processing. SOLUTION: When figure designing data are read, the figure form, figure position and figure dimensions are made out, and the output data are laid out to cells of a grid using appropriate dimensions as a unit, the figure data expansion unit is composed of a figure expansion circuit (119) which calculates the percentage of a figure during processing in each cell and outputs occupation factor data, a pattern memory (115) which holds a certain domain of the occupation factor data output by the figure expansion circuit (119), and a pattern memory readout circuit (121) which reads out the occupation factor data of each cell.
