[PROBLEMS] To provide a parking assisting apparatus in which a driver can park a vehicle more easily than conventional apparatuses. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] The parking assisting apparatus comprises an image pickup unit for picking up the image of the area behind a vehicle (80), a display unit for displaying the image picked up by the image pickup unit, and an image processor for displaying a guide for assisting the driver of a vehicle (80) to park the vehicle (80) on the display unit while superposing the guide on the image picked up by the image pickup unit. The parking assisting guide includes a steering start marker (31) for indicating start of steering of the vehicle (80) to the driver. The steering start marker (31) is the intersection of tangents (33, 34) at two different points on a predetermined track (32) which a predetermined fixed point (35) with respect to the vehicle (80) is expected to draw when it backs at a maximum steering angle. The fixed point (35) is located on the side opposite to the center of rotation (36) of the vehicle (80) when it backs at the maximum steering angle with respect to the vehicle (80).
