PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recording apparatus which can satisfy a proper suction condition for restoring the suction of ink ejection performance of a recording means, and which enables ink free from inclusion of bubbles to be infilled into the recording means by using a small amount of suction hardly wasting ink and a short suction operation time. SOLUTION: In a suction restoration operation of the inkjet recording apparatus, the ink is sucked in from an ejection port by generating a negative pressure inside a cap in a state wherein the ejection port of the recording means is hermetically sealed with the cap. The negative pressure in the cap is controlled by a first suction step of infilling the ink into a liquid chamber in the recording means by generating a first negative pressure in the cap, and a second suction step of removing foreign matter such as the air bubbles, remaining in the ejection port, by generating a second negative pressure with a greater absolute value than that of the first negative pressure, following the first suction step.
