PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving handrail drive mechanism of a passenger conveyor capable of preventing a moving handrail from being damaged, and extending the lifetime of the moving handrail even when a strong traveling resistance is generated in the moving handrail in a traveling condition. SOLUTION: A reaction force generating member 22 to generate the reaction force against the force to move a supporting plate body 9 for the driving rollers toward a moving handrail 5 is provided to prevent driving rollers 8, 8A and driven rollers 11, 11A from being excessively pressed against the moving handrail 5.
