<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To individually provide commodity information to a person requiring the commodity information by using a transceiver inducing an electric field based on information to be transmitted in an electric field transmission medium, detecting the electric field induced in the electric field transmission medium, and performing transmission/reception of the information. <P>SOLUTION: This commodity explanation system 100 has: an elecctrode 1 on which a commodity m<SB>1</SB>is mounted as a display shelf; the transceiver 9a connected to the electroide 1, inducing the electric field based on the information to be transmitted in the electric field transmission medium, detecting the electric field induced in the electric field transmission medium, and performing the transmission/reception of the information; and a commodity explanation server 2 connected to the transceiver 9a. When a user carrying a portable terminal 3 having a transceiver 9b touches the commodity m<SB>1</SB>, communication with a living body of the user as the electric field transmission medium is established between the transceivers 9a, 9b.
