PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner capable of miniaturizing a cleaner body. SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner comprises the cleaner body with a dust collection container chamber, a dust collection container 50 detachably mounted in the dust collection container chamber, and an electric blower mounted on the downstream side of the dust collection container chamber. The dust collection container 50 comprises a dust collection container body 53 with an intake 52 communicating with a connection port, a dust separating means 60 for separating dust and air from the dust and air sucked from the intake 52, a dust collection chamber part 55 for reserving the dust separated by the dust separating means 60, a negative pressure chamber 57 for guiding the air separated by the dust separating means 60 to an intake opening of the electric blower, and a handle part 54 mounted on the upper outside of the dust collection container body 53 for carrying the dust collection container body 57. A recess 200 for putting a hand to grip the handle part 54 is formed on the upper part of the dust collection container body 53 facing the handle part 54, and a wall 201a forming the recess 200 straightens air flowing in the negative pressure chamber 57.
