PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermosetting composition providing a hardened article excellent in chemical and physical properties and having an excellent storage stability, and to provide a rosin derivative suitable for preparing the thermosetting composition. SOLUTION: Hydroxy groups and cyclic anhydride groups are converted into a half ester in a reaction of a rosin alcohol with a chemical compound having in each molecule one cyclic anhydride group and one carboxyl group or with a chemical compound having in its molecule two cyclic anhydride groups. Further, to the carboxyl groups generated in this way, a divinyl (thio)ether compound is added for the generation of the polyhemiacetal ester resin in an addition reaction.
