<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input device which can choose and input a character string with a simplified method. <P>SOLUTION: The device is equipped with an icon DB storage part 15 for storing multiple character strings associated with an icon, while storing an icon as GUI (a graphical user interface); a GUI display part 12 for displaying the icon stored in the icon DB storage part 15; a user action detection part 13 for detecting that the icon displayed by the GUI display part 12 is chosen; and an icon DB control part 14 for displaying the multiple character strings associated with the icon detected by the user action detection part 13 by the GUI display part 12.
