PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing paper, having a sufficient bulkiness, further printing quality excellent in flexibility and touch feeling, also excellent in printing aptitude such as smoothness, sizing property, surface strength, etc., and especially suitable for a book paper. SOLUTION: This printing paper is characterized by applying a surface-treating agent containing a softening chemical, water soluble polymer and surface-sizing agent by 2-6 g/m<SP>2</SP>, and having 0.50-0.65 g/cm<SP>2</SP>density and 30-55 cm<SP>3</SP>/100 Clark stiffness in its crossing direction.
