PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new sizing-coated carbon fiber having both of sufficient adhesion and abrasion resistance and made exerting the properties, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The sizing-coated carbon fiber is a carbon fiber coated with a sizing agent, wherein polar constituent value Eo (mJ/m<SP>2</SP>) of surface free energy of the outermost layer of sizing satisfies formula (a) and polar constituent ratio R of surface free energy of inner layer to that of the outermost layer satisfies formula (b). Wherein formulas (a) and (b) are; 9≤Eo≤50 (a), 0<R≤0.8 (b). Ei; polar ingredient value (mJ/m<SP>2</SP>) of surface free energy of sizing inner layer. Eo; polar ingredient value (mJ/m<SP>2</SP>) of free energy of the sizing outermost layer.
