<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader of scanner unit one side cantilever support and an image forming device, in which image failure due to deformation of a scanner unit does not occur with an inexpensive component configuration which does not need a complicated structure. <P>SOLUTION: A scanner unit-side is fixed by a link form 109, and a stopper 108 in a free state is installed on a main body base 106-side. Thus, the stopper 108 becomes a support at the time of scanning, and deformation of the scanner unit 1 with respect to load from above does not occur. Thus, the sufficient image is obtained.
