The vehicle has components that communicate together and/or with a central control unit via a data bus. Each component has a memory with a special component identity code also stored in other components or in the central control unit. The vehicle-component association enables detection of a component not belonging to the vehicle, absence of a component or unauthorized removal or installation and enables triggering of suitable measures. The vehicle has a number of components that communicate together and/or with a central control unit in coded or uncoded form via a data bus. This definite association between the vehicle and the component enables detection of a component not belonging to the vehicle installed during manufacture or servicing or the absence of a component or detection of unauthorized removal or installation and enables triggering of suitable measures.
