The socket (1) to accommodate an electrical plug has a socket cup (2) which may be made of thermoplastic material. It has a large opening (3) and a small circular opening (4) in a base portion. It accommodates a baseplate (10) forming part of a protective assembly (9). There are two apertures (13) with inclined surfaces (30) underneath them. These surfaces are formed on a spring-loaded rotatable member and may be pushed aside by pins on an electric plug to allow them to make contact. A central aperture (15) may accommodate a fastening screw (33).
