PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cut control device inhibiting generation of exhaust gas odor, preventing deterioration of an exhaust purifying catalyst and suitably performing fuel cut. SOLUTION: A fuel cut device of the internal combustion engine performs fuel cut for improving fuel consumption and for purifying exhaust gas when the internal combustion engine is in deceleration operation condition. The fuel cut control device of the internal combustion engine carries out fuel cut and makes oxygen in exhaust in an excess state when the maximum oxygen stock is equal to or more than a predetermined amount. This allows oxygen to be sufficiently stored in the exhaust purifying catalyst. Fuel cut is also carried out if temperature of the exhaust purifying catalyst is equal to or lower than a predetermined temperature even when the maximum oxygen stock is less than the predetermined amount. In this case, the fuel cut is carried out because there is little influence on deterioration of the catalyst even if fuel cut is performed and oxidizing atmosphere is created in the catalyst.
