VERY FINE CARBON FIBER AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high strength/high elastic modulus very fine carbon fiber without having a branched structure. SOLUTION: This carbon fiber is produced through a process of forming a precursor fiber from a mixture consisting of a thermoplastic resin and thermoplastic carbon fiber precursor, a process of forming a fibrous carbon fiber precursor by removing the thermoplastic resin from the precursor fiber by using a solvent and then a process of carbonizing or graphitizing the fibrous carbon fiber precursor.
