BANDWIDTH SHAPING SYSTEM AND METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control an access to a resource by agents. SOLUTION: A computer system has many processors 311 to 314 connected to a processor bus. The processor bus 330 includes a shaping monitor 340 configured to control the access to the bus by the processors. The shaping monitor 340 attempts to distribute accesses from the respective processors throughout a base period according to priorities assigned to the processors. The shaping monitor 340 allocates slots to the processors in accordance with their relative priorities. Priorities are initially assigned according to the respective bandwidth needs of the processors, and can be modified from the comparison of actual accesses with expected accesses to the bus.
