The device includes a rotary plate (10) with guide channel (20) for guiding the elements (50) from an input to an output. The guide channel has several guide sections (21,22) and a clamping section (27). The guide sections each have an outer end (25) movable during rotation of the plate between the input and output, and an inner end (26) adjoining the clamping section. A blocking element is mounted in each guide section which can be moved between a passing position (I) and a blocking position (II). Independent claim describes method for aligning semi conductor elements having a square basic face wherein the blocking element which is located in the guide section at the input is moved from the passing position into the blocking position and the orientation of the elements is detected by a sensor.
