In cold gas liquefaction apparatus a bubble pump comprises a vertical pipe 13 heated at 15 and surrounded by a second pipe 16 containing the liquified gas which serves to insulate the liquid in the pipe 13; a further insulating layer 14 is provided. In a modification the bubble pump is fed with liquid from the surrounding liquid in the pipe 16.
