A sealing arrangement 36, for sealing a leakage gap between relatively movable parts in a flow path between regions of high "A" and low "B" pressure, comprises an annular sealing land 52 and at least two brush seal elements 40, 42. At least one brush seal element is provided abutting a radial inner surface 54 of the sealing land; and at least one brush seal abuts the opposite radial outer surface 56. The brush seal elements comprise a mass of bristles arranged in an annular shape, packed together in a layer and positioned one side of a backing member 44. Preferably the bristles may be at an angle to the radial direction of the sealing arrangement and may further be bent part way along their length. The sealing arrangement is particularly suitable for use s part of a compressor or turbine assembly.
