PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing and drying machine agilely drying clothes to have a short drying time. SOLUTION: The washing and drying machine has two tubs and a vacuum pump for evacuating an outer tub and an inner tub and comprises sequential steps including washing, spin-drying, closing pipes connecting the outer tub of drain pipes or the like to atmosphere by a motor-operated valve or the like, evacuating the outer tub and the inner tub by the vacuum pump while the inner tub rotates, operating a heater disposed on the outer tub and/or alternately operating the vacuum state and blowing dehumidified hot air to evaporate moisture on the clothes at a relatively high speed to dry the same. The outer tub has a rotary shaft provided with a magnet and a magnet for rotation corresponding to the rotary shaft is provided on one end of the inner tub so that the inner tub in the vacuum state rotates more smoothly.
