PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inserting method of an electrode group for a storage battery into a container eliminating such inconvenience that when the electrode group for the storage battery is inserted into the container, although a large electrode group is held and deeply inserted into the container, after folding is released, the electrode group falls by the self-weight and causes inclination or position slippage in the container. SOLUTION: In a stage inserting the electrode group 1 into the container to the midway, both sides 1c, 1c of the electrode plate group 1 are pressed and held with container side pressing cylinders 9, 9 installed on both sides of the container 2 through both side walls 2a, 2a of the container 2, the electrode group 1 is held in its position, and in this state, the pressure holding of the upper part of the electrode group is released, and then the upper surfaces of positive and negative straps 1a, 1a of the electrode group 1 are pressed with pressing members 8b, 8b, and the electrode group 1 is inserted into the bottom of the container 2.
