<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte for a photoelectric conversion element improving photoelectric conversion efficiency especially a short-circuit current and open circuit voltage. <P>SOLUTION: This electrolyte composition for the dye sensitized photoelectric conversion element contains 0.1 to 30 wt.% of saccharic acid, 50.0 to 99.9 wt.% of an organic molten salt compound, 0 to 15 wt.% of iodine and 0 to 49.9 wt.% of the other additive. The number average molecular weight of the saccharic acid in the electrolyte composition is 150-3,000. The organic molten salt compound of the electrolyte composition is an imidazolium iodide salt.
