PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain liquid crystal cell spacers capable of suppressing the alignment abnormality of a liquid crystal and preventing light leakage, a liquid crystal breaking phenomenon, and flocculation generated when the liquid crystal cell spacers are scattered by using a dry process. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal cell spacers consist of synthetic resin-based fine particles obtained by polymerizing a monomer. Fine pores are provided on the surface of the synthetic resin-based fine particles by chemical etching treatment. In the chemical etching treatment, a mere acid or alkaline etching liquid can be used. Alternatively, an etching liquid containing an acid or alkali, a surfactant and an organic solvent as indispensable components can be also used. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
