PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve the improvement of reliability and the downsizing of its size, without a switch being broken even in case that load is electrically opened. SOLUTION: A high-voltage pulse generating circuit 10 has a DC power source 12 and a transformer 14 and a switch 16 connected to both ends of the DC power source 12, and the output can be taken out of both ends of the secondary winding 18 of the transformer 14. A load 20 is connected to both ends of the secondary winding 18. Furthermore, the high-voltage pulse generating circuit 10 has a snubber circuit 34 which is connected in parallel with the switch 16, an overcurrent detecting circuit 36 which is connected in parallel with the snubber circuit 34 so as to detect overvoltage added to the switch 16, and a control circuit 38 which is connected to the rear stage of the overcurrent detecting circuit 36 so as to control at least the ON action of the switch, based on the detection of the overvoltage in the above overvoltage detecting circuit 36.
