PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an over-lock sewing machine with an upper knife changing mechanism, capable of stopping a driving knife and keeping the driving knife stored under a needle plate in the work which does not require the driving knife. SOLUTION: A cloth rim cutting mechanism of the sewing machine consists of a means driven by a driving source for generating vertical motion of an upper knife part 13, a means for transmitting the vertical motion of the means for generating the vertical motion to the vertical motion of the upper knife part 13, a means for intercepting the transmission mounted in the means for transmitting the motion, and a manual operation means for manually operating the means for intercepting the transmission. When the transmission is intercepted by the means for intercepting the transmission, the upper knife part 13 is set at a retracted position apart from the range of motion of the means for generating the vertical motion.
