PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an image forming apparatus small-sized and lower-cost, and to prevent the degradation of printing precision, in the image forming apparatus which has a plurality of photoreceptors with images formed thereon by an electrophotographic process and forms an image by transferring images formed on the plurality of photoreceptors to a transfer paper. SOLUTION: A driving signal is outputted from a laser driving circuit 906 to laser diodes on the basis of multi-value video data from an image controller 905. Light from a laser diode is deflected by one surface of a rotating polygon mirror to scan the surface of a first photoreceptor in a main scanning direction, and light from another laser diode is deflected by another surface of the rotating polygon mirror to scan the surface of a second photoreceptor in the main scanning direction, and light from laser diodes is detected in the upstream position in the main scanning direction of the first photoreceptor by a BD sensor 901.
