PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain titanium oxide for a visible light response type photocatalyst, which shows a high activity when irradiated with visible light, by means of a simple and low-cost production method. SOLUTION: Titanium oxide or titanium hydroxide is mixed with sulfur or a sulfur-containing compound which forms gaseous sulfur by heating, and the mixture is heated at 200-600°C under a non-oxidative gaseous atmosphere. Then, the mixture is heated at 100-600°C under an oxygen-containing atmosphere, and the titanium oxide for a visible light response type photocatalyst is produced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
