The invention relates to an air-cushioned support system for use as a patient lying surface, especially for operating tables or hospital beds, also for use in domestic nursing or care for the elderly. The inventive system is primarily used to prevent hypothermia by storing the body heat and in the prophylaxis and therapy of bedsore. The aim of the invention is to overcome the disadvantages of the known state of the art and to provide a support system that substantially meets the medical requirements, is easy and inexpensive to produce and is suitable for single use. For this purpose, the invention provides an air-cushioned support system which comprises at least one first flexible layer or film (1) having a defined number of spaced-apart fluid-filled static cushions (2) that are covered by at least one further covering film (4) which forms the surface used by the patient and which is linked with the first film (1) and/or the cushions (2). The interstices between the individual cushions (2) of the first film (1) and the covering film (4) form a hollow space (5) that extends across the entire useful area and that serves as a collecting space for any liquids that might ensue from the operation or as a heating zone or as a massaging zone. The static cushions, which are preferably filled with air, can be adapted to the specific requirements and are shaped in such a manner that the body surface of the patient rests thereon only in certain points. The patient's positioning in only certain points allows for an improved circulation of the blood in the tissue and contributes to the prophylaxis of bedsore at least when the patient has to rest for longer periods of time. |
