PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dispose a gear shift device having a function to reverse a rotating direction in a continuously variable transmission so that the axial length of the transmission can be reduced. SOLUTION: The gear shift device formed as an engagement clutch is installed in a friction type start clutch disposed at the rear of a variator.
