A bristle headed preform has a twisted wire carrier part(5), the free end(7) of which is joined to a first part(9) of the brush handle(3) while leaving an end section(8) exposed. The exposed end is then deformed and enclosed in a second part(16) of the handle. Alternatively the end section of the carrier part is deformed, placed in an injection tool and a handle part injected around it to cover and lock onto the deformed end section. In a first method the first part(9) of the handle(3) is injection molded with a passage(11) for inserting the bristle-free end(7) of the carrier part(5). The free carrier part end is then inserted into the passage and the projecting free section(8) deformed. A second handle part(16) is then injected around the free end. In an alternative method the first part(9) of the handle is injected around the free end of the carrier part and the projecting free end deformed before the second part of the handle is injected around it. In both methods the bristle free end is introduced into a passage in part of an injection molding tool. The passage has a variable cross-section which is reduced to hold and seal around the free end of the carrier and is enlarged for removal of the molded brush. Projecting free end sections of the carrier are deformed to produce a simple angle or a hook shape. The first part of the handle is molded with a cut-out(14) along part of the length in which the projecting end section of the carrier is deformed and embedded in the second handle part. During injection of the first handle part an annular collar(15) is also formed which, during injection of the second handle part, is pressed by the injection pressure around the carrier free end. Independent claims are included for: a) process equipment for manufacturing the brush which includes a deforming mechanism for shaping an end section(8) of the carrier part free end protruding through the handle(3) and an injection machine for enclosing the shaped end section and forming a second part of the handle; b) a round brush, in particular a dental brush, manufactured by the claimed process and whose end section of a twisted wire carrier part is deformed and embedded firmly inside the handle. |
