<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data communication system with which a best-before date and a validated date can visually and instantly be recognized and to provide an identification tag and a notifying method of lapse time. <P>SOLUTION: In an operation processing of a reader/writer when display is performed on the identification tag having an electrophoresis display arrangement, an ID number of the identification tag being an object of setting is designated in a step S100. In a step S102, a display content is designated. In a step S104, a desired display holding period (best-before date) is designated. In a step S106, display data corresponding to a designated display content are decided and driving voltage applying time is decided from the designated display holding period. Thus, transmission data formed of the ID number, display data and the display holding period as display holding period information are decided.
