PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric convertor enabling automatic focus detection of space saving by having high accuracy at a high speed to a wide region, and to provide an automatic focus detector. SOLUTION: On the basis of monitor output, in response to charge accumulation of an area sensor 100 when a sensor output/monitor output changeover part 116 selects the monitor output (output difference between the maximum value detection part 110 and the minimum value detection part 111) by a control signal from CPU 200, a controller 20 performs accumulation control; and when accumulation operation completes, the sensor output/monitor output changeover part 116 selects sensor output by the control signal from CPU 200. Then, a photoelectric conversion part 10 instructs a block region (sensor coordinates) of area sensor light receiving faces 100a and 100b by the controller 20 through serial communication, and the monitor output/sensor output are independently controlled with respect to each instructed block.
