PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device capable of enhancing the speed of a focusing operation by means of a hill climbing method. SOLUTION: The imaging device is provided with an imaging lens, a scan lens which is arranged on the optical axis of the imaging lens for searching the focused position of the imaging lens, an image detecting means having an imaging element which detects an image projected via the imaging lens and the scan lens as an image signal, an image judging means which judges the sharpness of the image signal detected by the image detecting means, a control signal generating means which generates a first control signal of controlling the moving direction of the imaging lens and a second control signal of controlling the moving direction of the scan lens in accordance with the sharpness of the image signal judged by the image judging means, an imaging lens driving means which drives the imaging lens in accordance with the first control signal generated by the control signal generating means and a scan lens driving means which moves the scan lens within a prescribed operation range in accordance with the second control signal generated by the control signal generating means.
