PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a functional liquid filling method for a liquid droplet discharging apparatus for performing initial filling of the functional liquid into a filling passage from a functional liquid storing means to a functional droplet discharging head, without bringing it into contact with oxygen or moisture-containing air, and a functional liquid filling device or the like. SOLUTION: This functional liquid filling device 6 of the liquid droplet discharging apparatus 1 performs initial charge of the functional liquid by introducing the functional liquid from the functional liquid storing means 141 into the filling passage. The device 6 is provided with a passage switching means 144 provided at the upstream end of a supply line 143 and switching between the functional liquid passage continued to the storing means 141 and a gas passage continued to a substitution gas source 8; and a suction means 82 performing sucking action to a nozzle 65. The suction means 82 introduces the substitution gas into the filling passage by sucking in a communicated state of the filling passage with the gas passage by the switching means 144. After introducing the substitution gas, in a communicated state of the filling passage with the functional liquid passage, the suction means 82 performs sucking action to initially charge the functional liquid to the filling passage.
