The switch operating device has an operating lever (16) associated with a pivoted switch wiper (15), displaced manually between an off position and 2 further switch positions by movement in opposing switching directions (P',B'). The switch wiper has a pair of projections on either side supported in sliding guides (19), a spring biased switch element (14) positioned centrally between the projections beneath the switch wiper, for release of a switch function upon operation of the wiper, the spring element holding the switch element in the off position.
