Cyclone separator (10) for separating a gaseous mixture of at least two respectively lighter (12) and heavier (14) gases. The apparatus (10) includes a first tubular section (16) and an elongated tubular section (18) adjoined to the first section, which converges at a constant angle (. A gaseous mixture is flowed into the interior of the first section (16) to achieve cyclonic rotation of the mixture, the rate of which increases with the convergence at the conical section (18), thereby effecting separation of the lighter (12) and heavier (14) gas components. A lighter gas outlet (11) is connected to the interior of the apparatus (10) for withdrawing the lighter gas (12) from the axial portions of the cyclone (10), and a heavier gas outlet (22) is connected to the interior of the apparatus (10) at the converged end of the conical section (18) for withdrawing the heavier gas (14) which the cyclonic action moves radially and which then moves toward the outlet due to a pressure drop in the apparatus.
