<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metering roll used in a coating part of a paper machine or a board machine, which has superior wettability and maintains uniform applicability for a long period of time. <P>SOLUTION: This transfer roll is prepared by thermal-spraying cermet onto a substrate to form a metallic film layer of an undercoat, and a ceramic layer having a porosity of about 1 to 20% thereon to form a topcoat, then sealing the surface of the coated layer with an organic-based or inorganic-based sealer, and finally finishing the outer surface of the roll into a surface accuracy with a roughness Ra of 0.2 to 0.4 μm by polishing. The roll has the ceramic thermal-sprayed coating which is very hard and has the smooth surface, so that the roll has superior abrasion resistance and prevents abrasion caused by hard fine particles contained in the coating liquid. The film is isolated from atmosphere due to sealing, so that it has superior corrosion resistance and prevents corrosion caused by the coating liquid. The roll has the adequate surface roughness and porosity and the superior wettability with the coating liquid, so that it can uniformly coat paper with the coating liquid. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
