The invention relates to a device for the real-time detection of moving objects. The inventive device comprises a moving object detector which is based on a computer vision system. The device consists of a camera that captures grey-scale images. According to the invention, the captured images are digitally processed by a circuit in real time, comprising the extraction of characteristics that can be used to identify moving objects, the operation of said processing circuit being bio-inspired. The invention is suitable for external and internal use. In addition, the device can be installed in a static position, such as to detect objects moving inside the field of vision of the camera, or on a moving object, such as to extract information relating to the movement thereof.
