PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extendable shaft less producing stick slip and less transmitting vibration and noise discomfortable to a driver when the extendable shaft comprises both a damping function and an extendable function. SOLUTION: A recessed part 21 is formed at the end of an outer ring 12 of a damping member 10, a projected part 22 is formed at the end of an inner ring 11, and the projected part 22 is fitted to the recessed part 21. An arresting mechanism 20 arresting the damping member 10 in the approximately axial direction is formed such that, when a displacement is inputted from the mutually fitted recessed and projected parts 21 and 22 into a male shaft M or a female shaft F in the approximately axial direction, the sliding of the extendable shaft (male/female shafts M and F) is more promoted than the damping member 10. Accordingly, when the displacement occurs in the axial direction, the recessed and projected parts 21 and 22 arrest the damping member 10 to prevent a rubber 13 from deflecting in the axial direction.
