PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrifier for an image forming apparatus capable of surely removing depositions sticking on a discharge wire in the electrifier, and capable of preventing defective image quality over a long period, even in the case the life of a process cartridge is prolonged. SOLUTION: In the electrifier for the image forming apparatus provided with an electrifying member 25 for electrifying an image carrier and cleaning members 59 and 60 which can retreat and for cleaning the electrifying member 25, an abrasive material supply means 66 for supplying abrasive material to the cleaning members 59 and 60 from the outside is arranged.
