PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber preform drawing method capable of giving a preform rod which need not a step of correcting bends from a preform ingot. SOLUTION: The method is one for producing an optical fiber preform by drawing a preform ingot into a preform rod smaller in diameter than that and comprises drawing the preform ingot while controlling its position so as for the position of a neck-down in the horizontal plane of the preform ingot to be located in the target position, measuring the direction and magnitude of the bending of the drawn preform rod, and adjusting the target position according to the results. To control the position of the neck-down at the target position, it is suitable to adjust the position of suspension of the preform ingot. For example, it is suitable to shift the position of suspension to the XY direction, especially, the direction in which the measured bending is convex. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
