PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To limit the range of swivelling of a seat part in a support of a chair used in a swivel chair with an auto-return mechanism. SOLUTION: A gas spring 8 connected to the seat part 2 of a chair body 4 is inserted into a support tube 7 fixed to a floor surface F, and an operation rod 9 is rotatably connected to the bottom of the support tube 7. A cam face 16 of a slider 13 is pressed on a cam face 17 of a rotor 14 by a coil spring 15. When the seat part 2 is swivelled, the rotor 14 is rotated together with a tube 10 of the gas spring 8, and the slider 13 compresses the coil spring 15 by the engagement of the cam faces 16 and 17. When the seat part 2 is released, the seat part 2 is returned to its original position by the elasticity of the coil spring 15. The range of swivelling of the seat part 2 is limited as a rod 20, attached to a washer 19 rotating together with the tube 10, abuts to stoppers 21 and 22 fixed to the support tube 7.
