A vehicle drive system is provided to prevent decrease of an output of a generator by preventing slips of a belt and increasing a rotation speed of the generator, when a load torque is limited. A vehicle includes left and right front wheels(1FL,1FR), which are driven by an internal combustion engine or main drive source(2), and left and right rear wheels(1RL,1RR), which are driven by an electric motor or subordinate electric drive source(3), which is preferably a DC electric motor. The output of the engine(2) is transmitted to the front wheels(1FL,1FR) after passing successively through an automatic transmission(4) equipped with a torque converter and a differential gear(5). The output of the engine(2) is controlled by an engine controller(14) which is configured and arranged to adjust an opening of a throttle valve(13), which is included in an air intake passage(12). A gear ratio of the automatic transmission(4) is normally controlled by manual operation by a driver and automatic control by an AT controller(18) based on a vehicle speed and an accelerator pedal depression amount. |
