A position-determining module (PDM) (12) defines a motor vehicle's position data. A computer (14) links to the PDM and uses the position data and data about roads subject to tolls so as to recognize when traffic passes over roads subject to a toll. A transmission module (16) like a mobile telephone links to the computer for wireless data transmission to an external receiver.
