PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image area selection device capable of selecting a partial area in a photograph image with an easy operation so as to conform to a user's intent as much as possible. SOLUTION: The device for selecting a partial area from one image is provided with a specified area setting part 2 which extracts a surrounding area including a specified point on the image specified by the user as a specified area, and a composition analysis/output area calculation part 3 which conducts composition analysis for determining positional relation of occupation of the specified area extracted in the specified area setting part 2 for the whole image, and which conducts a calculation of a selected range of the partial area including the specified area extracted by the specified area setting part 2 on the basis of the positional relation determined as a result of the composition analysis and a value corresponding to the size of the partial area.
