A method for editing a text message of a mobile terminal is provided to allow a user to conveniently and quickly edit characters because not many key actions are used in selecting an edition function. It is checked whether a menu key is inputted while a text message is being created(209). When the menu key is inputted, a plurality of edition mode items are displayed in a matrix form corresponding to key arrangement(211). When a key is inputted, one of edition modes, namely, a Hangul input mode, an English upper case input mode, an English lower case input mode, a number input mode, a special character input mode, a copy mode, a paste mode, an open mode, a font color setting mode, corresponding to the inputted key is performed(213-249).
